Is it OK to Delete an Embarrassing Tweet?

Is it ok to delete a tweet on Twitter? There’s a tendency on the Internet, and within social media circles in particular, that any published content MUST remain on the Internet forever, regardless of the level of embarrassment, inaccuracy, or whatever. I don’t know where this “transparency or die” kind of attitude came from, but it’s not a rule that can’t be broken.
